Guest Speakers

Brockton Public Schools- South Middle School

Jim Stapleton, who has taught for over 37 years, is the embodiment of the type of person we want for our students. He personally has raised almost 20k in funds for students, but it is still not enough. Likewise- many coaches, teachers, and others have always done their all to ensure students have a fun learning experience, often at their own expense. Money depletes quickly and there usually is not enough, especially for students who may be more needy than others. Fundraisers are great but when asking the same family, friends, etc… multiple times a year- sometimes people just do not have the extra.

Ms Gomes thought what a better way to raise money than an event for all* to enjoy. The First Annual Summer Gala will be held on Saturday June 10 th at 7p at Ann’s Palace- 277 Main St. There will be a DJ & love band where you can dress to the nines and dance the night away, all for a worthy cause.

This is a 21plus event.

Money raised will go directly to South Middle school- helping with Christmas gifts, lunches for school trips (which are not included), & support for the South Hall of Fame and scholarships.

Information regarding this event is attached.

Councilor Update

Councilor D’Agostino encouraged our members to attend the CNP public forum on Wednesday 4/26- voicing what kind of use we want to see such as multiple levels, mixed use, will taxes be equitable, do we need more commercial space, etc…

He also informed us that he has asked the CFO to review debts & then assist with a needs assessment of sorts for the future. In addition- there will be a mtg on 5/10 to discuss the counterview (monies out) such as where the money from marijuana sales is going.

There were some complaints regarding the condition the SE of Forest Ave was- Eversource will be out to clean up shortly.

Regarding the nips concern- this is a license commission matter to regulate, not local authority.

He has also been involved with the inspection of services to help with code enforcement and recently completely a ride along with BPD- BFD in 2 weeks. He reminded us of what an amazing job they do and how seamless they make it seem.
