President’s Report

Old Business

-           We are looking for two new members to join our Board of Directors. Please contact Karla or Ron if interested. Ron would like Tom Thibeault to consider the position of VP.

New Business

-           Thank you to the Cape Cod Café for hosting the meeting.

-           New member: Welcome to David Kilnapp from Neighbor works!

Guest Speakers

Robert Corley & Tim Doherty- Neighbor works

Neighbor works is a privately owned real estate development/housing solutions group (part of the federal program Neighbor works America) that is working on several projects in Brockton. Examples are:

-           Sycamore on Main which is the property which houses the Brockton Beer Company as well as 195 residences.

-           Lincoln School which will open at the end of 2024.

-           The Grayson Hotel, which is in the predevelopment stages and in addition to the residential space, will include retail opportunities.

-           Brockton South T.O.D. which just broke ground and will hopefully be completed by September 2026

In addition to the properties- they also provide education and financial assistance to businesses for website design, PR, and more.

Evan Sears & John Fay- Office of Planning & Economic Development

The office is happy to announce that the final draft of the vision for Campello is complete (see link below.) Reminder that the area was broken into sub-districts, based on best use from Union Street to Kmart Plaza. This will pe discussed at the 5/7 meeting of the planning board and all are encouraged to review prior and reach out with any questions.

Councilor Update

Councilor Susan Nicastro- Ward 4

-           Nothing to be present to the Planning board.

-           The Zoning board will meet on 4/9 and will review a petition for a variance to change the apartment building at 835 Montello from 5 to 6 units as well as to change the hours of the Gas Station at 761 Warren Ave to 5am-1am

-           The License commission received a req comm at 10 Perkins Ave for Flex Jamaica Cuisine

Community Outreach

-           The Chief has authorized walking & bike beats again in the Downtown area- hopefully Campello will be soon.

Chief Edward Williams

-           Welcome to Brendan Weeks, who will be taking over for Chief Williams in appx 1 year.

-           There were 6 fires in the last 48 hours. Breakdown by cause: 3 due to cigarettes, 1 animal/wire connection, 1 lithium/ion battery, and unfortunately 1 is still unknown.

-           With Spring coming- they are focusing on quality-of-life issues such as getting cars off the street, illegal dumping, etc.

-           Excited to have 4 new recruits start in the city!

 

Other business

Evelides Goncalves- Business Outreach Coordinator, Brockton Redevelopment Authority

-           1 st & 2 nd Coronavirus payments have gone out- 3 rd is pending.

-           Reminder that there is a Façade Improvement loan available 0%, up to 57k.

-           Kitchen Infrastructure Loan program is available 2-3 % but state also has a grant.

-           They also can provide home loans at 0% for residential spaces above commercial space.
