CNP Campello presentation

In 2021 an act was passed which authorized $50 million over 5 years for “financial assistance in the form of grants or loans to accelerate and support the creation of low income and moderate-income housing in close proximity to transit nodes.” Campello was chosen as an awardee of one of these grants for $150k, working with the Mass Housing Partnership. A steering committee was established to help create a “complete neighborhood”- one where access to housing, jobs, education, essential needs, services, and amenities are all organized around the human scale. Living in these neighborhoods reduces car dependency and minimizes our impact on climate. Complete Neighborhoods advance equity by removing transportation barriers to economic opportunity. The goal is to redevelop (both with demo &/or rehab) existing properties, build affordable housing, & bring the City into compliance. Additionally- utilize various means to ensure that any money brought in to Campello will be redistributed in Campello.

There are 4 public workshops scheduled (details below)- all scheduled for Wednesday evenings at 6pm & will be held at South Middle school on Keith Ave.

4/26- Land Use 5/24- Supporting Economic Growth 6/28- Design 7/26- Zoning

Short discussion was had regarding various areas the group would like to be considered - Rob & Evan will bring back to committee.

In addition- David Lynch asked to look into prohibiting parking on Garfield St, as commuters park there which creates issues for trucks traveling on it. Rob & the OCPC will investigate it.

Councilor Update

Councilor Nicastro is now serving as the Councilor President, in addition to representing Ward 4. She wants to remind everyone that there is money flowing in from Federal & State programs. This could help with the redevelopment & benefit the city. Ron suggested that when new businesses appear in front of the licensing board that they are encouraged to join their neighborhood association.
